• 2. Technology – Brief Introduction

OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology is a form of display that uses organic compounds to display media on par with the level of LCD displays. This technology forgoes the uses of many dangerous chemicals that are used in CRT, LCD, and plasma displays, and provides a safer alternative to environmentally concerned businesses and consumers.
 • 3. Advantages
 • 4. Less heavy metals and dangerous chemicals when disposed of.
 • 5. Does not need a backlight to be easily visible, eliminating lighting costs.
 • 6. Require less power than other display technologies.
 • 7. Possible to be made transparent, so many uses are opened up where impossible before.
 • 8. Very thin.

Purpose and Objectives

OLED Technology
 • 9. Uses
 • 10. Flexible displays in advertising
 • 11. Ultra-thin displays for products marketed for business and casual consumer use. Ex: Business cards and billboards
 • 12. Flexible design and small size allows for increased speed in both shipping and manufacturing of products.
 • 13. Combination with ultra-thin batteries (web link) allows for paper thin technologies that would have been impossible before.

Paper-thin battery currently in testing phase
• 14. Special Features

Cheaper to produce than any other HD capable material.
 • 15. Ultra-thin and flexible
 • 16. Better display quality than most displays
 • 17. Resistant to physical damage (refer to video link)
 • 18. Already in other products on the market, only going to become cheaper to produce.
 • 19. Market still new, ripe for money-making new ideas.

Comparison with like technologies
Comparison table:
